David Mair, the manager of "The Marina Shop" has over 55 years boating experience in New Zealand, the Pacific and the Mediterranean.
He is a qualified Marine Engineer and for 12 years owned and operated
his own Boat Building business.
David is also a qualified diver with underwater demolition and salvage experience.
More recently he spent over 10 years in the Pacific Islands running various Game Fishing Charter Boats.
David has completed many Blue Water voyages, under power and sail, and has an in-depth knowledge of the problems that most mariners are likely to encounter.
Since 2000, David has owned and operated his marine insurance business trading as The Marina Shop.
Melita has over 45 years boating experience in New Zealand, the Pacific and the Mediterranean.
She is a retired Registered Nurse and has completed many Blue Water voyages, under power and sail, to Australia, New Guinea, the Solomon's, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga and French Polynesia.
Between 1988 and 2001 Melita and her husband David operated a Game Fishing business at Musket Cove Resort in Fiji, and from 1993 to 1998 Melita was hostess on their own long range live-aboard Game Fishing
boat MV Zeus in Tonga.
In 2005 Melita gave up her job as a professional nanny to join David at The Marina Shop in Opua and is now fully engaged in selling marine insurance.
Cheryl joined The Marina Shop in October 2006 and has become a valuable asset to this marine insurance business.
Cheryl and her husband Brian Douglas owned and operated their marine engineering business "Seapower Ltd" for 16 years from 1990 until they sold the business in 2006.
Cheryl and Brian purchased their first yacht "Caravelle" in the early
1980's in Hobart, Tasmania, and after disposing of their little 'petrol engine' they lived onboard "Caravelle" and cruised extensively along
the East Coast of Australia to the Whitsunday's then returned to Sydney for the birth of their first child.
Cheryl and Brian lived aboard "Caravelle" for four years and Brian then sailed to New Zealand were they purchased their first home and have remained in New Zealand ever since.
They are currently building a Robert's Offshore steel yacht and plan to continue sailing offshore as soon as this boat is completed.
